Award win at ‘Jazzin Up the Mall’

Best Upcoming Jazz Ensemble

Our Jazz Collective has been named the ‘Best Upcoming Jazz Ensemble’ at the Jazzin Up the Mall Festival. This festival features over 100 groups and ensembles performing in the Queen Street Mall. Around 10 of the best ensembles receive an award. We are honoured to be one of them.

Australian Honours Ensemble Program

The Jazz Collective includes several musicians who are part of the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP) this year. The program, run by the Conservatorium of Music, included top-performing high school musicians across Australia.

Our musicians in AHEP are Benjamin who plays the trumpet, and Elliott who plays the Tuba. More students involved in AHEP and other ensembles include Santos, a vocalist, Eilidh, a violinist and Isaac, a cellist. This is the fifth consecutive year that Citipointe has been represented through this program and we are very proud of our accomplished musicians.

Redlands Festival

Our Jazz Collective also excelled at the Redlands Eisteddfod. They won five gold medals, three silver and two bronze, plus two highly commended. Discover more about our Primary and Secondary Redlands Eisteddfod Achievements on our .

Academy of the Arts

We have one of the leading co-curricular music programs in Brisbane, according to our consistently excellence performances and outstanding results over the last three years in Eisteddfods and competitions. With over 30 ensembles in the Academy of the Arts, students in Prep to Year 12 can find many ways to explore music and develop their skills.

We offer a wide array of musical ensembles, bands, choirs, and orchestras, led by experienced directors with professional backgrounds in the music industry and a deep passion for musical excellence.

These groups engage in various performances and rehearsals throughout the year, both within the College, such as Primary Assemblies and Performance Concerts, and externally, including Eisteddfods, Musicfest, and Incursions. These opportunities not only allow students to enhance their musical skills but also provide a platform for them to experience the many benefits of making music together. Participation in an ensemble is a requirement for all students receiving tuition, fostering motivation to practise and work towards shared performance goals.

Ensembles

Citipointe’s musical program caters to students of all ages and abilities, with a variety of ensembles designed to nurture their musical talents and interests.

For our youngest students, we have groups like Mini Melodies, Tiny Trebles, and Vivace Voices, where they can explore the joy of singing in a supportive environment.

Musicians can join our concert bands, starting with the Starter Band and progressing through levels like Alpha Band, Primary Band, and Concert Winds. Similarly, string players can participate in ensembles such as Starter Strings, Alpha Strings, and Piccolo Strings, honing their skills and performing alongside their peers.

For those interested in chamber music, there are options like Rhythm Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble, providing unique opportunities for collaboration and musical expression. Additionally, we offer jazz bands like Jazz Jammers and The Jazz Collective, where students can explore the exciting world of jazz music and improvisation.

Events

The Academy of the Arts is dedicated to offering diverse performance opportunities for our young musicians and performers, providing valuable real-life experience in concerts, eisteddfods, festivals, musicals, and corporate settings, while highlighting the talent of our students.

One example is our Academy of the Arts Concert Series, comprising four evening performances with engaging themes, showcasing a range of ensembles and choirs. This series allows students to demonstrate their skills to an enthusiastic audience of parents, friends, and family.

“The opportunity to play an instrument in a school setting changed my life, and I truly believe that it can change the lives of students and parents everywhere.”

Mr Jared Proellocks, Head of Performance
